Somewhere in the dark reaches of my mind, I recall a TV comedy about a drill sergeant who constantly yelled, "Move it, move it, move it," to his troops. He had it right. We need to move to stay healthy.
The Oelwein Blue Zones plan will have plenty of opportunities for us to move. Expanding the bike trails and how to promote their
use is a top priority. Dan Ratcliff, Wings Principal, and Terry Rex,
teacher and Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisory of the Year, will head up a
Walking School Bus initiative. Forming
Moai Walking Groups and working to improve walkability around town so there are safe routes to downtown and grocery stores, and
promoting additional Walk Somewhere Days, will be the focus of Jessica Burkhart,
Community Recreation and Wellness Director.
I have this cool antique - an English wicker cart that people used to take with them shopping. I'm thinking a nice cart to take with me to the grocery store might get me walking instead of driving. Hmm. Wonder who sells those?
If you have ideas to get us walking, call Dan, Terry, or Jessica so we can move it, move it, move it.
Shopping carts are all over the Internet..in almost every color..some have liners..some even have insulated liners. I have no excuse now!
